Assessment & Outcomes

Prior to an assessment, detailed background information, including early developmental history and medical information, is gathered through questionnaires and interviews with the family, teachers and the young person. A Visual Difficulties Screener must also be filled in prior to assessment. Areas of cognition explored include verbal and visual abilities, working memory, phonological awareness and processing speed. Attainment in reading, writing, spelling and handwriting is also assessed.

A full assessment typically takes 3-4 hours, including brain breaks. During this time the young person works one to one with the assessor in a calm, controlled environment without distraction. Remote assessment may require an adult facilitator in the room with the young person (12 years and older only), who is bound to remote assessment conditions.

Through the administration of a pre-selected range of standardised tests, the aim of the assessment is to evidence the student's areas of strength and fragility. This cognitive profiling informs interventions, in–school support and home strategies.

The assessment is scored, analysed and a full and comprehensive evaluation written up and provided as a digital report within 3 weeks. An online follow-up discussion of the findings, recommendations and next steps can also be arranged and is included in the cost. There is no guarantee that the assessment will result in a diagnosis.

Preparation & Costs

It is essential that your child has had an eye test within 24 months of assessment, and where hearing may be a concern, an up-to-date hearing test. It is not possible to revise or study for this kind of assessment. Please just ensure that your child has had a good night's sleep, is not feeling unwell, or is not unduly anxious about a forthcoming event or test at school. You must let me know if your child is taking long term medication for an ongoing health issue. If they wear glasses, they must have them on the day.

Support & Consultations

Once a full learning profile has been established, I can provide very specific, tailored recommendations for targeted support to address key areas of need. These will be comprehensible and actionable for tutors trained in working with special educational needs.

In the first instance, a consultation is advised. During this session I will profile their language acquisition journey and their literacy environment. This will open up discussion about how best to support the development of both/all languages to full academic literacy and lead to a series of recommendations which can be independently implemented.

Yes, absolutely, provided your child is not currently studying in a Rome-based private bilingual or international school. Please contact me directly if you are not sure as I do provide a weekend service and travel to other cities throughout Italy once a month.

Of course. Discuss your classroom challenges in confidence. Ask the Rose Advisory the questions you feel you can't ask elsewhere! I'm happy to come into your school and provide bespoke CPD.

Specific Conditions

I can confirm the nature, extent and impact on attainment of maths difficulties. I can communicate this to teachers via email and recommend the right maths intervention option for your child. I can signpost you to specialist resources and help talk you through your parental anxieties so that you can support your child. I can suggest suitable in-class and exam accommodations for dyscalculia, and will explain what ways of working you should establish with them for Maths at home.

ADHD screening involves a comprehensive consideration of medical history, physical and behavioral interviews with the individual and sometimes family members or teachers, and the completion and analysis of a standardized questionnaire or rating scale. Where appropriate you will be provided with a referral letter to a medical professional who can evaluate symptoms in line with the diagnostic criteria, rule out any other conditions, and prescribe medication if required.

Being handed a lengthy, detailed, technical report full of new terminology and new information about your child can be daunting and difficult to digest. I am experienced in helping families and learners navigate the information, come to terms with the implications of the findings, and understand the benefits of this insight, such as knowing how to harness learner strengths to compensate for weaker areas of working.
